Services
If you are unable to come to the library, you can apply to receive your items via home delivery. Please call us or apply online to begin the process.
Computer Use
Computer use is free for patrons with a Steger-South Chicago Heights library card.
Non-resident guests may use a complimentary 15 minute pass or purchase time for $1.00 per 30 minutes.
License Plate Sticker Renewals
You can renew Illinois license plate stickers in person anytime the library is open. There is a $9.50 service fee and payment must be made with a debit or credit card. Please bring your notice that you received by mail or email OR your VIN and license plate number. Please be aware that if your registration is more than 11 months overdue, you will need to renew at the DMV.
Printing, Faxing, and Scanning
Printing:
Prints are $0.10 per black and white page and $0.25 per color page.
Patrons may print from the computers directly to the copy machine and pick up their prints by scanning their library card or guest pass.
You may also email any documents you would like printed to stegerlibrary@gmail.com and pick them up at the front desk for the same price. Don’t worry – we will delete your emailed document after it is printed.
Faxing:
Please come to the front desk to send a fax. Sending a fax is $1.00 per page. We require that you use one of our cover sheets, but we will not charge you for that page.
You may also receive faxes at the library. They are $0.10 a page.
Scanning:
Our copy machine can scan color or black and white documents. Patrons can scan a document or image to a library computer or request that a staff member email it to them. There is no charge for this service. Please remember to delete your scanned document before you leave; staff will delete any documents we scan after we send them.
Notary Services
Notary services are free. Due to limited notary availability, we recommend calling ahead and making an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome if a notary is in.
We do not notarize forms concerning real estate or land transfers and are unable to assist you in filling out any forms.
Please bring your ID and do not sign the form until directed by the notary to do so.
Lamination
We can laminate items for $1.00 per page. Please bear in mind that the lamination process can damage sensitive papers and we are not liable for any damages that may occur due to the high heat of the machine. Staff will not laminate Social Security cards, COVID vaccination cards, photographs, or government documents like birth/death/marriage certificates as they may become unusable.
Paying for Prints, Faxes, and Other Services
We accept cash, check, and credit card. We are usually unable to take bills over $20.
If we do not have the item you are looking for, we will request it from another library and attempt to have it sent to SSCHPL. If you are unable to find what you’re looking for at a library within our network, we can sometimes find it elsewhere, but it may take longer. This service is usually free, but sometimes other libraries may charge a small fee for rare or specialized items. Please note that most libraries do not lend college textbooks, so we may not be successful in finding these through interlibrary loan. If you need the item right away, your library card will also work at these public libraries.

The meeting may not be used for fundraising, social occasions, religious services, partisan political meetings or rallies, commercial meetings where products and services are solicited, or any activities that would substantially or materially interfere with library functions.
