PUBLIC NOTICE

Due to a recent vacancy, the Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library District Board of Trustees is accepting letters of interest for individuals wishing to serve in the position of Library Trustee until the next election in April 2027. 

 

Who qualifies to be a library trustee?

Trustees must be registered voters and residents of the Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library District, which includes all of South Chicago Heights and portions of Steger and Sauk Village.

What time commitment is required to be a trustee?

Trustees meet every month on the fourth Thursday at 7:00pm at the Library. You will also receive a board packet by email every month and you should set aside time to read and familiarize yourself with it before the meeting.

 

What does the Board of Trustees do?

• Establishes and supports library policies
• Assesses maintenance of library grounds and buildings
• Develops the annual budget
• Reviews monthly financial reports
• Hires and evaluates the Director
• Advocates for the library and promotes the library in the community

Trustees are not compensated for their service.

 

How do I apply to be a trustee?

All interested parties should write a letter that includes any relevant experience and why they would like to serve on the board.

Letters will be accepted through April 23rd, 2026 and can be dropped off at the library or sent by mail or email to the addresses below.
