Q: How do I get a library card?
A: If you live in our district (which includes most of Steger, all of South Chicago Heights, and a small portion of Sauk Village), you can apply in person or online. You can learn more and even apply online by clicking here.
Q: How do I know if I live in district and can get a card?
A: If you are not sure, you can click here to see a map where you can enter your address and see which library district you live in.
Q: Where can I use my SSCHPL library card?
A: You can easily use your card at any SWAN Library, which includes over 100 libraries in the south and west suburbs of Chicago. Click here to see a map of those libraries. You can also sign up to be a reciprocal borrower at other libraries in Illinois, such as Chicago Public Library. Contact those libraries to learn more about their process.
Q: Can I use a computer at the library?
A: Yes. There is no charge to use the computers at the library. If you have a SSCHPL card, you can use that card to login. If you do not have a card or have a card from another library, please ask for a free guest pass at the front desk.
Q: Can I print something at the library?
A: Yes. Black and white copies and prints are $0.10 per page, and color prints are $0.25 per page.
Q: Can I fax something at the library?
A: Yes. Faxing is $1.00 per page. We are unable to receive incoming faxes.
Q: Do you have bilingual staff?
A: While some members of our staff speak additional languages, their availibility may vary during the workweek. However, all staff members are trained to use Google Translate and can assist patrons in any language.
Q: Can I request one-on-one assistance from a staff member?
A: Yes! Please contact our Social Services Coordinator Ana to request one on one assistance.
